Leonard Hastings "Len" Ainsworth founded the Australian company Aristocrat Leisure in 1953 - today, the second largest gambling machine manufacturer in the world. Following a brief struggle with prostate cancer in 1994, Ainsworth handed control of Aristocrat to his seven sons. Soon after, Ainsworth formed a new company, Ainsworth Game Technology, that today is worth more than $600 million. Ainsworth and his wife, Margarete, are long-time supporters of children's hospitals as well as mental health and cancer research centers. Ainsworth has also supported higher education, helping to fund the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Sydney's University of New South Wales. In 2014 he funded the Ainsworth Chair of Technology and Innovation at Sydney's Children’s Hospital at Westmead to accelerate research on childhood disabilities and illnesses like cerebral palsy. In 2012 - independent of the Giving Pledge - Ainsworth announced his intention to leave half of his fortune to charity.

Setting a positive example is the best way to encourage others to give back. I have a large family of sons and am doing my best to encourage them to follow my example and embark on their own philanthropic endeavours.
